The digital transformation of health care necessitates harvesting insights from massive datasets by exploiting the potential of modern artificial intelligence and machine learning solutions and allowing, among others, the prediction of health outcomes for one specific treatment based on specific patient characteristics. Their medical application has attracted increasing attention and focus on the predictive power of the emerging complex statistical models in medicine [1].

Along with the hope (and hype) of AI within health care, the public is swiftly taking AI into their own hands. Consumers are at the forefront in this era of AI. A survey conducted in January 2025 by Imagining the Digital Future Center found that 52% of US adults used Chat GPT, Gemini, Co Pilot, or other LLMs. Among LLM users, half reported personal learning as their goal, and 39% sought information about physical or mental health [3].

With their capacity to understand and generate human-like text, large language models (LLMs) are poised to support health care professionals in complex clinical decisions [1-3]. A wide array of LLMs is now accessible, including open-source models, offering solutions that cater to both the public and medical professionals [1,4].
The efficacy of these models has been demonstrated in a variety of tasks, albeit with some limitations [5,6].

HCP: health care professional; OR: operating room; VR: virtual reality.
Health care professionals appeared enthusiastic about the VR intervention, encouraging the patients during gameplay and offering implementation suggestions to the research team. On 6 occasions, the clinician adapted their preoperative evaluation in the waiting room to minimize interruption to the VR intervention by speaking to the parents or by discretely performing the task while the patient continued playing.

The cognitive health of older people is critical to aging in place. Even among healthy older adults, about one-third may experience cognitive decline within 18 months [1], impacting decision-making and daily activities like managing finances, medications, transportation, and meal preparation [2]. Cognitive decline is also linked to decreased physical performance and psychosocial issues, such as loneliness and depression [3]. The health care burden may thus increase in the long run [3].

SCI is a profound, life-altering condition that affects approximately 15.4 million people worldwide [2], with significant impacts on individuals, caregivers, and health care systems [3-6]. Tetraplegia, the partial or complete loss of motor and sensory function in all 4 extremities and the trunk, is a common manifestation of cervical SCI [7].

Respiratory diseases pose a global health challenge, with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma among the most prevalent types [1]. These conditions result in significant morbidity and mortality worldwide, imposing a substantial and growing health burden [2,3].
While severe respiratory diseases are often incurable, inhaled medications can prevent acute exacerbations [4].
